Due to a number of clashing events, the Zurich E-Prix is set to be postponed and dropped off the Formula E Season Five calendar while Switzerland's fourth largest city, Bern, could be a possible replacement.
The 2018 Zurich E-Prix marked Switzerland's first closed circuit race in 64 years after racing was banned in the country following the Le Mans disaster of 1955.
The event, which proved to be an instant success with fans and locals, saw Lucas di Grassi soar to his first win of Season Four while Jaguar Racing also secured its maiden pole position through a stunning qualifying performance for Mitch Evans.
With the 2019 event set to take place on June 9, the race coincides with the running of the Zurich Festival which is held every three years, meaning that a race in the city cannot take place until 2020.
“Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to find alternative dates that worked for both the city of Zurich and our calendar of events in 2019, but we remain in conversations for a potential return in 2020,” a spokesperson from the ABB FIA Formula E Championship told e-racing365.
“The Zurich ePrix in June proved to be a huge success at both a national and international level, seeing great participation on all fronts from multiple stakeholders, including fans, sponsors and media alike.
“This has also sparked interest from other cities within the country and our promoter is leading a number of discussions to look at alternatives for this coming season.
“We’re currently evaluating the best option from a technical and commercial perspective.
“With Formula E bringing back motorsport to Switzerland after nearly six decades, we can only be proud of how well we’ve been received nationwide.”
It is understood that Bern is under consideration as a potential replacement for the Swiss leg of the season.
Formula E's fifth season of competition is set to commence on December 15 at Ad Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
