Dorian Boccolacci will make the step up to Formula 2 with MP Motorsport from this weekend’s round at Spa-Francorchamps.
Boccolacci, 19, has spent the last year-and-a-half in the GP3 Series, placing sixth with Trident last season before switching to championship newcomer MP Motorsport.
Boccolacci added a second career victory at the pre-summer Hungaroring round, having previously been disqualified from first place in France, and holds seventh in the standings.
But he will now make the step up to Formula 2, replacing Roberto Merhi at the Dutch operation.
"I'm grasping this opportunity with both hands", said Boccolacci. "Being promoted to F2 halfway into my second season in GP3 is a sign of confidence by MP Motorsport, a team with which I have gelled really well.
"I'm looking forward to the step up in both power and downforce, and that at the most exciting track on the calendar."
"Dorian has been outstanding in his GP3 stretch with us", said Sander Dorsman, Team Manager at MP Motorsport.
"We've been working very well together, so we are happy to promote him to the top category in our programme. I'm sure he will quickly adapt to the F2 car."
Merhi, who started 12 Grands Prix for Manor Marussia in 2015, made sporadic F2 outings for Campos and Rapax last year, switching to MP Motorsport this year.
Merhi took a podium finish in Monaco’s Feature Race and held 11th place in the standings.
