Kevin Magnussen insists Haas can overhaul rival Renault and secure fourth place in this year’s Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship.
Haas had enjoyed its strongest season to date in the series and holds fifth overall despite allowing a sequence of opportunities to slip through its grasp earlier in the campaign.
Haas faces a 16-point deficit to Renault though out-scored its rival 47-26 across the spell of five events in six weekends leading up to the summer break
"It’s possible [to get fourth], we’ve been faster in qualifying, so we can certainly qualify ahead of them," said Magnussen.
"They seem to get a bit more out of the races, and score more points than us. That’s a fact. We need to improve our consistency still in the races.
"We’re very consistent in qualifying, that’s the thing we have improved the most since last year. We need a more consistent performance in the race."
Magnussen went on to praise the gains Haas has been able to exploit in terms of slow-speed prowess, having struggled at certain circuits earlier in the year.
"I think in the beginning of the year we saw a bit of a weakness in low-speed corners," he said.
"We saw it in Monaco as well but that was a bit special because we damaged the car and didn’t have any spare parts. That was an outlier.
"In Canada with the new upgrade as well, at the low-speed track we were struggling a bit. We’ll see. It feels like we’ve made some progress.
"We’ve seen on the last couple of tracks in the low-speed corners we’ve seen some progress, so hoping to see some more progress there."
