Pierre Gasly says he and his Toro Rosso team can be pleased at having grabbed every opportunity to score points across the opening half of the 2018 Formula 1 season.
Toro Rosso’s STR13 performed strongly in Bahrain, Monaco and Hungary, and the 26 points Gasly has scored this year have come at just those three events, courtesy of fourth, seventh and sixth respectively.
"Honestly since the beginning of the year, Bahrain, Monaco and Hungary were the only ones where we could have got that kind of result," he said.
"Especially after the last three, four races, honestly I was shocked again to be able to get that P6.
"[In Germany] in qualifying we got stuck in Q1, behind one Williams, and in Hungary we lapped one of the Williams in the race.
"There are just tracks where the car works much better. It's quite surprising. But when it does work like in Hungary, we need to make sure we can take all the points we can."
Gasly echoed the view that Honda is making strong progress and is sure further gains will arrive at the upcoming events.
"Budapest we knew that it's a track that's a bit less power-sensitive, and in a way it would make things a bit closer between everyone," he added.
"Honda did a fantastic job in qualifying in the wet conditions, driveability was great. And then again in the race, we didn't have any issues at all.
"I think it's the best way to motivate them and show them that we have potential and to push them forward.
"Hopefully [we’ll] get more performance on their side for the second half of the season."
