After beating the Pikes Peak uphill record last month with a sub-eight minute time, Volkswagen has entered its all-electric I.D R into the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed with the aim of beating the hill climb's electric record.
Romain Dumas, who beat Sebastien Loeb's time at Pikes Peak, will once again appear behind the wheel of VW's I.D R machine, which boasts having 500kW of power which equates to 680bhp.
Goodwood's current record for an EV was set by Jonny Cocker who completed the 1.86km-long run in 47.34s when driving a Lola-Drayson B12 69/EV in 2013. The outright record for the circuit stands at 41.6s – a lap that was set by Nick Heidfeld in 1999 when driving McLaren's championship-winning MP4/13 Formula 1 car.
"I am really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the I.D. R Pikes Peak at the Goodwood Festival of Speed," said WEC ace Dumas.
"The race in Duke of Richmond's estate is a very special event that is steeped in tradition.
"The I.D. R Pikes Peak may still be very young, but the record-breaking run on Pikes Peak has already made it a living legend."
At Pikes Peak last month, Dumas completed the 12.42-mile-long hill climb in 7m57.148s, beating Loeb's 2013 record by more than 16 seconds.
The 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed will take place on July 12-15 and marks the 25th anniversary of the event.
