The Trident Formula 2 team has hit out at “the unsportsmanlike” Santino Ferrucci in the wake of the youngster’s two-round suspension from the series.
Ferrucci collided with team-mate Arjun Maini in the Sprint Race at Silverstone, and also hit the Indian on the cool-down lap.
Formula 2 officials confirmed that Ferrucci had breached Sporting Regulations by “deliberately” driving into Maini, a testimony that was delivered by his Trident team.
Ferrucci was summoned to a hearing but declined to attend and was issued with a two-round suspension, along with a fine of €60,000.
Trident issued a statement on social media in the aftermath, vowing to “show their solidarity and support to Arjun and his family, for the unsportsmanlike and above all uncivilized behaviour that he was forced to endure not only during this last weekend by Santino Ferrucci and father, who accompanied him.
“The contractual implications of what has happened will be dealt with by our lawyers.
“Never in these 12 years of sporting activity has anything even close to this ever occurred.
“We apologise for the show that we have regretfully offered.”
Maini and Ferrucci are both members of Haas F1’s young driver development scheme.
Ferrucci carried out in-season running for the team in both 2016 and 2017.
