Maximilian Gunther clinched his debut Formula 2 victory in the Silverstone Sprint Race with a flawless lights-to-flag effort, as Arden wrapped up its first win of the campaign.

Gunther maintained a steady pace in the wake of the rolling start as Prema's Nyck De Vries and the Russian Time's Artem Markelov gave chase, but were unable to keep up with the German's ferocious pace in the opening laps.

Championship leader George Russell extended his points lead after fighting through the pack to bring his ART-run machine home in second place, ahead of title rival Lando Norris, who carved his way through from tenth place to get the final spot on the podium for Carlin.

En route to the podium, Norris collided with Antonio Fuoco at Luffield after the Italian driver failed to leave room on the outside for the Carlin driver forcing Fuoco out of the race, he also made a stunning move into the Vale chicane around the outside of two cars.

Markelov tried to fend off his fellow title rivals but was unable to keep them behind and had to settle for fourth ahead after taking the place back from the Charouz of Louis Deletraz in the final laps.

Luca Ghiotto brought home his Campos in across the line sixth-place after starting in fifth ahead of De Vries who both fell away from the leading pack in the final laps of the race.

The DAMS of Alexander Albon was unable to improve on his starting position of eighth-place after securing the victory in Saturday's feature race ahead of the MP Motorsport pair of Ralph Boschung and Roberto Mehri who round out the top 10 respectively.
