Kimi Raikkonen reckons an error under braking for Club on his final Q3 lap denied him a shot at pole position for the British Grand Prix.
Raikkonen was in contention for the leading positions throughout the top 10 shootout and recorded the fastest overall time in the first sector as the drivers carried out their final runs.
Raikkonen, though, wound up third in the pecking order, behind Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel – but finished within a tenth of a second of the pole-sitting Mercedes driver.
“I think I had all the tools today to be faster but I locked the front wheel going into Turn 16 on the last lap,” said Raikkonen.
“For sure I gave away enough time there to be on the front.
“I’m sure there were places to gain time and be up there but it obviously didn’t happen today.
“This is what we’ve got, it was close but third is not too bad.”
Looking ahead to Ferrari’s race prospects, at an event it has not won since 2011, Raikkonen said: “It’s impossible to say, it was a close fight today and it won’t be easy to overtake, as always.
“We’ll see what we can do but the car should be OK.”
