The 2019 Australian Grand Prix is set to take place one week earlier in the month than it has been in recent years, subject to final FIA approval.

The weekend of 15-17 March 2019 looks set to host Formula 1's 2019 curtain-raising event around the Albert Park circuit.

With the potential of a second Grand Prix taking place in the United States in Miami, Florida. The move is likely to help make room for the event or to also facilitate more breathing room across the calendar for logistical purposes after a congested 2018 calendar.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren said: "The Grand Prix has become a pillar of Victoria’s world-class events and sports calendar and we’re proud to again be hosting the season opener in 2019."

Andrew Westacott, Australian Grand Prix CEO added: "To announce the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 2019 date more than eight months out from the event is fantastic news and we hope this will encourage overseas and interstate visitors to plan for a lengthy visit to Melbourne and Victoria."

"We are immensely proud of the four-day spectacle Melbourne puts on and honoured to raise the curtain on one of the world’s most prestigious annual championships.

"The start of an F1 season, our Aussie superstar Daniel Ricciardo, a Supercars Championship round and so much off-track action – it’s a must-attend event in 2019!"

Approval of the date will likely come at the next FIA World Motorsport Council meeting which will take place on October 12 in Paris.
