Prema Racing's Sean Gelael has been handed a three-place grid penalty and two penalty points for his collision with Louis Deletraz during Formula 2's Sprint Race in Spielberg, Austria.
In the Sprint Race on Sunday, which was won by Artem Markelov and Russian Time, Gelael started from 13th place and failed to see the chequered flag, retiring from a late-race puncture following contact with Deletraz in Turn 4.
The incident, which was investigated post-race, was found to be the fault of Gelael, who was deemed to have caused an avoidable incident with his Swiss rival after Deletraz was found to be ahead of the Indonesian before being forced off-track which caused him to lose control of his car which ultimately led to the contact.
Gelael's penalty, which will see him demoted three places, will be applied after qualifying for Saturday's Silverstone Feature Race in support of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix which will be the final part of F1's 2018 triple-header which commenced in Le Castellet, France, two weeks ago.
Gelael will also have two penalty points added to his racing licence for the crash.
