George Russell dominates chaotic French feature race, Lando Norris falters

ART's George Russell dominated a chaotic Formula 2 feature race at Paul Ricard in with mixed conditions to close the gap to title leader Lando Norris down to just seven points.

The rain began to fall on the formation lap setting the drivers on edge, as the lights went out to start the race, Norris stalled on the grid and fell to the back of the pack.

Russell led the field away and never looked back even as the rain began to fall causing chaos in the opening stages of the race, many fell foul of the tricky conditions.

Sergio Sette Camara tried to hunt down Russell in the final stages of the race but was unable to close down the British driver and had to settle for second place.

Roberto Mehri continued his form from Monaco and secured a second podium of the season for MP Motorsport, the former F1 driver drove superbly in wet conditions.

Luca Ghiotto after numerous spins around the La Castellet circuit in the inclement conditions still managed to bring his Campos across the line in fourth place.

Antonio Fuoco had a frantic race after stalling on the formation lap, a mechanic restarted his Charouz against the rules and was subsequently handed a 10 second stop/go penalty, after a second pit stop he still managed a fifth-place finish.

McLaren junior driver Nyck De Vries fell back in the final stages of the race and had to settle for sixth ahead of the Charouz of Louis Deletraz.

Nicholas Latifi in the DAMS drove a phenomenal last lap to overtake Tadasuke Makino into Signes on a damp track, this meant he clinched eighth place over the Japanese driver ensuring he will be on pole for the sprint race.

Red Bull junior driver Nirei Fukuzumi rounded out the top ten for Arden Motorsport.
