Citroën has announced it has terminated Kris Meeke and co-driver Paul Nagle's contracts following "an excessively high number of crashes" this season.
The British driver will therefore not be participating in the remainder of the World Rally Championship season with the French manufacturer.
Citroën posted a statement on its social media saying a large number of crashes was the reason for their decision.
"Due to an excessively high number of crashes, some of which were particularly heavy, Citroën Racing WRT has decided to terminate the participation of Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle in the 2018 WRC."
Meeke most recently crashed out of Rally Portugal where he and Nagle were lucky to escape injury. Meeke holds eighth in the standings with 43 points.
"This wasn’t an easy decision to make because it affects a driver and a co-driver, but it is largely founded on safety issues which come under my preoccupations as team principal," commented Pierre Budar.
"We have consequently chosen to make this decision as a preventive measure."
The team has yet to announce a replacement for Meeke; Mads Ostberg will join Breen at the next event in Sardinia in June in a move that was announced prior to Meeke's departure.
