Daniel Ricciardo improved on his record-breaking pace from FP1 to top free practice two for Red Bull ahead of this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.

Ricciardo lit up the timesheets with a 1:11.841s lap on Pirelli's Hypersofts, beating team-mate Max Verstappen by 0.194s as Red Bull wrapped up another 1-2.

Ricciardo's time was the first sub 1:12 around Monaco's streets as he improved on the track record he had lowered in FP1.

Sebastian Vettel was Red Bull's primary challenger for Ferrari, with the four-time World Champion occupying third place after the 90-minute session, 0.572s off the pace.

Monaco GP: FP2 result in full

Reigning champion Lewis Hamilton was the highest-placed Mercedes in FP2, ending the session in fourth, 0.695s adrift of Ricciardo, while Kimi Raikkonen followed closely behind in the second Ferrari, 0.007s behind Hamilton.

Valtteri Bottas secured the sixth fastest time of the session in the second Mercedes while Nico Hulkenberg was the 'best of the rest' for Renault in seventh, just ahead of a McLaren 8-9 that was fronted by Stoffel Vandoorne.

Hulkenberg's Renault team-mate Carlos Sainz Jr. completed the top 10, 1.359s behind Ricciardo.

Outside of the top 10, it was an encouraging session for Toro Rosso, with Brendon Hartley securing the 11th fastest time while Pierre Gasly was 14th fastest, separated by the Force India pair of Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon.

In the afternoon session, Williams' poor performance continued, with Sergey Sirotkin emerging in 15th fastest while Lance Stroll spent a large portion of his time in the car complaining, ending the session at the back of the timesheets in 19th.

The only stoppage to the session came when a loose drain cover between the exit of Casino and Mirabeau Haute required repairs.
