After a long period of speculation, Venturi Formula E has confirmed that Tom Dillmann will stand in for Edoardo Mortara at the Berlin ePrix in May.
Due to a calendar clash with the DTM Championship, Mortara will be absent from the Berlin round of the 2017/18 season, instead racing at the Lausitzring.
While Venturi reserve driver Michael Benyahia was understood to be in contention for the seat, which could extend to the double-header New York ePrix in July, Dillmann was in pole position for the stand-in role having raced for the Monegasque squad for the final seven races of Season Three last year where the Frenchman scored 12 points.
Most recently, Dillmann has tested for the team at Formula E's two manufacturer group tests at Monteblanco and Calafat in preparation for Season Five where the all-electric championship's current Spark SRT 01E car will be replaced by the revolutionary 'Gen2' chassis.
“I’m delighted to be able to count on Tom once again,” said Gildo Pastor, President of Venturi.
"He has an amazing capacity to adapt and is also excellent at fine-tuning. I’m convinced he’ll be up to the task.”
