Billy Monger claimed an inspiring podium finish on his BRDC British F3 Championship debut at Olton Park on Saturday – in what was also his competitive return to racing.
Monger underwent a double amputation following a horrific British F4 crash in April 2017. However the 18-year-old has been working relentlessly to realise his dream of racing again and secured a one-race weekend deal with Carlin, who are running a fourth car for the teenager.
Linus Lundqvist claimed the victory ahead of Nicolai Kjaergaard, but the headline story is Monger's podium finish from fifth on the grid.
Monger moved up the order as he avoided a crash between Krish Mahadik and Clement Novalak ahead, the latter retiring through damage.
Monger was then able to hold a one second advantage over fourth-placed Tom Gamble who was unable to get close to the Brit's Carlin.
BillyWhizz, as he's affectionately become known, walked onto the podium to collect his trophy to huge applause.
Carlin has yet to confirm whether they will offer Monger a full-season, with funding believed to be holding up any deal.
