Reigning Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi set the benchmark ahead of qualifying for the Punta del Este ePrix with a record-breaking lap for Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler.
Di Grassi topped the final practice session of the weekend with a best lap time of a 1:13.672, beating Sebastien Buemi's previous lap record that was set in FP1 by an impressive 0.864 seconds.
Britain's Sam Bird was di Grassi's nearest challenger in the session for DS Virgin Racing, 0.408 seconds off the pace while Mitch Evans completed the top three for Jaguar Racing, 0.055 seconds adrift of Bird.
Oliver Turvey was fourth fastest for NIO followed by Nico Prost who set the fifth fastest time of the session, albeit over half a second off the pace.
Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne was sixth fastest for Techeetah while Venturi's Edoardo Mortara was seventh fastest.
Nick Heidfeld broke into the top ten for Mahindra Racing after a difficult opening practice session which saw the driver finish in 12th, this time finishing in eighth fastest 0.032 seconds ahead of Tom Blomqvist who was ninth for Andretti, despite crashing heavily in the mid-way point of the session, bringing out a red flag.
Alex Lynn rounded out the top ten in the second DS Virgin Racing car, 0.930 off the pace.
In the bottom half of the field, Buemi finished FP2 in 11th fastest, an entire second down on di Grassi despite setting the pace earlier in the day while Felix Rosenqvist ended the session in 20th and last place as a tough weekend looks set to be in store for the Swedish driver.
"We don't know, let's see," said di Grassi post-practice when asked if his championship fight will start today.
"We have to focus on the race again, try to do the best qualifying, the best race, and we'll see the result in the end.
"Of course the car, again, is competitive so we're gonna try and take the best out of it," he added.
