McLaren Formula 1 youngster Nyck de Vries will compete in the majority of the 2018/19 World Endurance Championship in the LMP2 class with Racing Team Nederlands.

De Vries is to take the spot currently held by veteran Jan Lammers, when he steps aside from racing after this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours.

De Vries will then race across the remainder of the campaign, alongside team owner Fritz van Eerd and ex-Caterham F1 driver Giedo van der Garde, which includes the 2019 running of Le Mans.

Racing Team Nederlands is stepping up to the WEC’s LMP2 class for the Super Season after competing in the European Le Mans Series last year.

De Vries, a long-term member of McLaren’s young driver programme, will combine his WEC duties with a full campaign in the Formula 2 championship.

De Vries graduated to Formula 1’s feeder series in 2017 and finished seventh overall, taking victory in Monaco for Rapax, before moving across to Racing Engineering.

For 2018, de Vries has switched to Prema, the team that guided Pierre Gasly to the 2016 (GP2) title and Charles Leclerc to last year’s championship.
