Felix Rosenqvist stormed to pole position for the Mexico City ePrix for Mahindra Racing, marking a fifth career pole for the championship contender.
Lying second in the Drivers' Championship, Rosenqvist performed his first qualifying run in group two and while Sebastien Buemi set the initial pace in qualifying, Rosenqvist held second, securing a place in the Super Pole shootout.
Competing alongside DS Virgin Racing's Alex Lynn, NIO's Oliver Turvey, Andretti's Antonio Felix da Costa and Renault e.dams' Buemi, the Swede was the penultimate runner of Super Pole, snatching provisional pole with a flawless 200kW lap.
When Buemi failed to complete a clean lap in his final run, Rosenqvist was handed pole position and, as a result, closed up to Jean-Eric Vergne in the points standings through an additional three bonus points by taking the all-important top spot.
Da Costa was Rosenqvist's nearest challenger in qualifying, meaning that will start alongside the polesitter in second on the grid while Lynn was third fastest.
Although Turvey and Buemi qualified in fourth and fifth respectively, the pair will be promoted one position courtesy of a ten-place grid penalty for Lynn which relegates the driver down to 13th on the starting grid.
Outside of the top five, Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler's Daniel Abt qualified in sixth place followed by Vergne in seventh, Nelson Piquet Jr in eighth, Sam Bird in ninth and Nick Heidfeld in tenth.
These drivers will ultimately be promoted by one position through Lynn's penalty although Bird will drop outside of the top ten due to having the same penalty as his DS Virgin teammate.
With penalties taken into account, this means that Andre Lotterer, who qualified in 11th for Techeetah, will start from ninth while Lynn will start from tenth due to the penalties of Bird and di Grassi.
This relegates Bird down to 19th on the starting grid while di Grassi will start from last place. As di Grassi was unable to serve his full ten-place penalty, the driver will also receive a five-second time penalty which will be added on to his mandatory car switch mid-race.
