Lucas di Grassi fastest, Alex Lynn causes red flag in Mexico City ePrix FP2

For the second session in a row, Lucas di Grassi set the pace for Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler ahead of the Mexico City ePrix.

After setting the pace earlier on in the day, di Grassi's form continued into second practice as the Brazilian driver set a best lap time of a 1:01.203, 0.239 seconds faster than Mahindra Racing's Felix Rosenqvist who was his nearest challenger in second fastest.

Jaguar Racing's Mitch Evans found an improvement in pace from first practice to set the third fastest time of FP2, 0.303 seconds adrift of di Grassi while Nick Heidfeld was fourth fastest in the second Mahindra.

Britain's Alex Lynn was the highest placed DS Virgin Racing driver, completing the top five despite crashing in the closing stages of the session which caused a red flag. With extensive damage to the left-hand side of his car, the British squad face a large repair job before the race which will be held later today.

"Felix [Rosenqvist] was on the racing line and I was trying to spot my braking zone," explained Lynn after FP2. "It's very dusty out there as you can see, the wheels already kicking up dust. Unfortunately, I was a little bit of a passenger at that point. Yeah… shame."

When asked about the extent of the damage of his car, Lynn was unsure, but remained upbeat for the remainder of the weekend:

"It's hard to know really. I think the boys here obviously work really hard to get the car out for the race. But I've got a lot of faith in them and hopefully it should be fine.

"Unfortunately, already with a grid penalty from the previous rounds it's already going to be a difficult day but, to be honest, I've got a lot of faith in the car and I think the team have put in a lot of effort and we've been very quick today so I'm pretty hopeful," he added.

Andretti Formula E's Antonio Felix da Costa was sixth fastest in practice two followed by Daniel Abt who was seventh fastest in the second Audi.

Sebastien Buemi was eighth fastest for Renault e.dams followed by Jose Maria Lopez who was ninth for Dragon Racing after clattering the wall during the session. Sam Bird rounded out the top ten in the second DS Virgin car.
