Former Sauber Team Principal Monisha Kaltenborn has co-founded a new team in Formula 4 for 2018.

Kaltenborn, who spent several years at the helm of the Swiss minnows in Formula 1, was ousted mid-2017, after falling out with new owners Longbow Finance.

Kaltenborn has linked up with Franco-Monegasque businesswoman Emily di Comberti in a 50-50 partnership to form KDC Racing.

The team will compete in German and Italian F4 under a Swiss license, and operate out of a base in Granollers, a stone’s throw away from the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

“For me, Formula 4 is still a new and exciting race series in which I see a lot of potential and future,” Kaltenborn told Auto Bild.

“In particular, the development of young drivers, part of which will in the future be among the best in their field, appeals to me very much.

“In fact, in my opinion, Formula 4 already shows who has the makings of the World Champion.

“As a co-owner I will have a decisive influence on the strategy of the team. My main responsibility is to prepare talented young drivers for their future racing careers.

“My many years of Formula 1 experience will be helpful. Especially with hopeful young drivers a professional support is important, and also to avoid the usual “beginner mistakes”.

The day-to-day business is led by our team manager Josep Trinidad, whom we place great trust in.”
