Maximilian Gunther will graduate to Formula 2 with Arden in 2018, the British outfit confirmed on Tuesday.

Mercedes-affiliated Gunther claimed five wins en route to third in the 2017 F3 standings, having previously finished as runner-up to Lance Stroll in 2016.

Gunther will team up with Honda protégé Nirei Fukuzumi at Arden, with Formula 2 action set to begin with Wednesday’s shakedown of the new-for-2018 package at former French GP venue Magny Cours.

“I’m absolutely ready to take the next step and can’t wait to go up against the world’s best young drivers,” said Gunther.

“I know that this move will be successful with the backing of Arden’s experienced team.

“Many thanks also to my partners and sponsors, who are supporting me as I progress.”

Arden’s confirmation of its 2018 line-up leaves just DAMS, Trident and MP Motorsport without nominated drivers.

DAMS is set to field Nicholas Latifi and Alexander Albon, while Haas-linked youngsters Santino Ferrucci and Arjun Maini are poised to form Trident’s duo.

MP Motorsport is set to use team-affiliated Daniel de Jong – who competed for the squad in GP2 from 2013 to 2016 – for Wednesday's shakedown.

Campos, meanwhile, has yet to confirm a team-mate for Luca Ghiotto.
