The distances of races across the MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 classes at select events will be shortened in an attempt to make all events run for the same duration.

For MotoGP, the races in America, France, Barcelona, the Czech Republic and Misano will be reduced by one lap, while the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez and the Valencia race will be shortened by two tours.

In Moto3, the race at Le Mans will lose two laps, with the Americas, Spanish, Catalan, Czech, Aragon, Malaysian and Valencia Grands Prix shortened by one.

Just as in the premier class, Moto2 will lose two laps from the distance of the Jerez and Valencia races, while one lap will come off of the events in Texas, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Misano, Japan and Malaysia.

The idea behind these changes is to give broadcasters covering MotoGP weekends the opportunity to structure its programming better.

Further reductions in lengths to the Moto2 and Moto3 races will take place in 2019, though MotoGP distances will stay unchanged.

The FIM has also confirmed a change to the regulations for the premier class regarding race stoppages. If a red flag is flown with 75 percent or more of a race completed, a result will be declared just as it is in Moto2 and Moto3.
