The newly-created Masters Endurance Legends series will join Formula 2 and GP3 in supporting Formula 1 at the returning French Grand Prix this June.

France has returned to the Formula 1 calendar after a decade-long absence, with Paul Ricard entrusted with hosting duties for the first time since 1990.

Masters Endurance Legends will hold two races across the course of the weekend, with the series open to Le Mans Prototype and GT cars built between 1995 and 2012.

The MEL double-header round at Paul Ricard adds to the existing calendar compromising Imola, Brands Hatch, Silverstone, the Nürburgring, Spa and Dijon.

The races will be organised by Masters Historic Racing, which recently confirmed that its Historic Formula 1 series will be a support act for the British Grand Prix.

“I’m proud that in its first year Masters Endurance Legends will be able to showcase its spectacular variety during the French Grand Prix weekend”, said Masters Historic Racing founder Ron Maydon.

“The Paul Ricard circuit is perfect for these cars, as they will be able to really stretch their legs on the straight while the technical return section is a true challenge for any driver.

“Building on our experience in staging Historic Formula One support races at Grand Prix weekends, I’m sure we will put on a good show for the French crowd.”

Gilles Dufeigneux, General Director of the 2018 F1 French Grand Prix, added. “Having the opportunity to see, smell and hear some of the most iconic and successful racing cars suits our programme perfectly.

“Indeed, these cars will not only be seen on stage but driven flat out and race against each other.

“With F1, F2, GP3 and now Masters Historic Racing on board, all is set to offer the spectators from all over France, Europe and beyond a great and varied show.

“During three days, emotions around past, present and future will be on schedule.”
