Birthday boy Daniel Abt secured his and Audi’s first factory victory in Formula E after Edoardo Mortara spun whilst leading in Hong Kong, to hand the victory to Abt.
Update: Abt disqualified and stripped of race win, handing victory to Rosenqvist
The spin for the Venturi driver, which came on lap 43 of 45, dropped him to third, promoting Felix Rosenqvist to second. Rosenqvist himself lost the lead early on after starting on pole.
A starting lights failure meant the Safety Car led the pack off and as it peeled off into the pitlane, Rosenqvist immediately locked up at the Turn 1 hairpin, dropping to 11th and allowing Mortara through for the lead.
Clever energy management allowed Mortara to push at the end as Abt closed in before the Swiss driver span, admitting he pushed too hard to secure fastest lap and the extra point.
Abt therefore had a clear track to victory on his 25th birthday, winning by more than five seconds over Rosenqvist who fought his way through the field to recover to second.
Jaguar's Mitch Evans looked set for third before a car swapping issue meant he lost time, dropping him down the order before recovering to finish fourth, just three seconds off the podium – it was however Jaguar's best finish since joining last season.
Energy management hit DS Virgin's Alex Lynn hard as on the final lap he plummeted from fifth to tenth as his battery ran empty, promoting Jean-Eric Vergne to fifth, Saturday winner Sam Bird to sixth, Oliver Turvey to seventh, Maro Engel to eighth and Nico Prost to ninth.
