Lewis Hamilton will start the Brazilian Grand Prix from the pit lane, after Mercedes opted to withdraw his car from parc ferme conditions.
Hamilton crashed out of qualifying in the first segment of the session, after losing control of his W08 through the medium-speed right-hander of Ferradura.
Hamilton was set to line up from 20th place on the grid as a result, but Mercedes will fit parts of a different specification to his car, meaning he must start from the pit lane.
Mercedes will also fit a new power unit to Hamilton’s car, giving him “maximum beans” for the 71-lap race, and for the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi later this month.
Hamilton last started from the pit lane at the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix, where he surged up to third position in wet/dry conditions.
