Williams Formula 1 reserve driver Paul di Resta will make his endurance racing debut at next year's Daytona 24 Hours.
Di Resta, 31, will share a United Autosports-run Ligier JSP217 with Will Owen, who races with the team in the European Le Mans Series.
Additional co-drivers are yet to be announced, while McLaren protégé Lando Norris has been confirmed in the sister Ligier alongside Phil Hanson.
The Daytona 24 Hours marks the first round of the IMSA Sportscar Championship.
“I’m really looking forward to racing at Daytona and with United Autosports,” said Di Resta, who made 59 starts in Formula 1, mostly with Force India.
“I’ve never done a 24-hour race and never raced a prototype so it’s all new to me, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
“Entering a 24-hour race is something I’ve looked at doing before and when Zak asked, I jumped at the opportunity.”
Di Resta is well-known for his tin-top exploits, having won the DTM title in 2010 with Mercedes, but has not competed in any form of endurance racing.
After climbing the single seater ladder he joined the DTM circus, which led to a full-time Formula 1 drive in 2011.
The Scot will undertake a testing programme to become acquainted with the Ligier chassis.
All four of United’s confirmed drivers are Daytona rookies, although Hanson and Owen both competed at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 category.
“The Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona is getting bigger every year, so it’s great to be part of it,” said Di Resta.
“I plan to do some testing ahead of the race to get integrated into the team and to get a shot at driving the car prior to heading to Daytona in January.”
United Autosports team owner Zak Brown added: “I’m pleased we have managed to pull together a deal for Paul to join the team at Daytona.”
“Although he’s not driven our car before, he’s had plenty of racing experience in different categories so I’m confident he will have a good race and enjoy being with the team.”
