Ex-Formula One driver Felipe Nasr will switch to sportscars next season, racing a Cadillac DPi-V.R in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.
The 25-year-old Brazilian has been paired with Eric Curran in the #31 Whelen Engineering-sponsored car for a full campaign that will include the Daytona 24 Hours and 12 Hours of Sebring.
Nasr, who raced in 39 Grands Prix during a two-year stint in F1 with Sauber, will make his third appearance at Daytona in 2018.
As a rising single-seater star, he competed in the season-opening enduro in 2012 with Michael Shank Racing, and in 2013 with Action Express as a prize for winning the Sunoco Challenge competition.
Nasr fills the driver gap left by Curran's former team-mate Dane Cameron, who transferred to the Acura/Penske DPi project.
The new #31 pairing will be joined by Toyota LMP1 star Mike Conway at Daytona, Sebring and Petit Le Mans.
Action Express also confirmed that former Audi LMP1 ace Filipe Albuquerque will partner Joao Barbosa in the sister entry, replacing Christian Fittipaldi who moves into the endurance driver role.
"IMSA is an incredibly competitive championship and we all expect that 2018 will be even tougher,” said AXR team owner Bob Johnson.
“The Prototype class has established itself as world-class competition and next year is going to be even tougher with new teams and manufacturers joining us."
"We are really looking forward to the new competition and have been working to have everything in place to be ready to go starting in Daytona."
