Fernando Alonso insists he has "options" for 2018 which would see him capable of winning races, suggesting he could be considering a move away from Formula 1 where all the top seats are all but confirmed.
The Spaniard's McLaren contract expires at the end of the season and he has yet to agree a new deal amid the team's Honda conundrum.
On Friday, Alonso said there were options available to him which could see him in a position to win races, but with Ferrari and Red Bull confirming an unchanged driver line-up and Mercedes having Lewis Hamilton locked down, the only seat available within a top team is Valtteri Bottas', but it's highly likely that the Finn will remain.
Meanwhile Renault have said they won't be ready to sign Alonso next year, nor will they be in a position to win races, therefore it seems the two-time champion could be hinting at a possible offer from Andretti Autosport for a full IndyCar season following his successful Indy 500 outing this year.
"I'm going to have to sit down with all the options that we have and decide what's the best one," Alonso said in Monza.
"I believe there are options in the market to be winning next year and that's going to be my only intention, and if I can't find them or see them, I'll try to win wherever I go.
"But I think it will go well and I'm optimistic."
McLaren have yet to decide which power unit they will be running next season, with both current supplier Honda and potential replacement Renault on the table, Alonso however insists that a decision to stick with Honda won't make his exit a certainty.
