MP Motorsport driver Sergio Sette Camara claimed his first Formula 2 win in the Spa sprint race, while championship leader Charles Leclerc recovered to fifth.
The race finished behind the safety car after a late crash for Nobuharu Matsushita at the top of Raidillon. It was a considerable impact but he was able to climb out of the car.
Sette Camara started third on the grid but stormed into the lead at the start, after a sluggish getaway for polesitter Norman Nato.
From there, he was able to establish a small advantage, but never looked likely to be challenged as those behind him battled it out for the final spots on the podium.
The Brazilian racer followed the safety car until it peeled into the pits at the end of the last lap, claiming both his and MP Motorsport’s first F2 win.
Nyck de Vries was close behind in second place, ending his first race weekend with Racing Engineering on a high, ahead of Luca Ghiotto, who completed the podium.
Nato finished fourth, just ahead of Leclerc, who lost his feature race win after being disqualified alongside title rival Oliver Rowland for excessive plank wear.
Leclerc and Rowland started from the back of the grid in the sprint race but both made up several places in the early laps, Rowland actually getting the jump on Leclerc initially.
However, the Prema racer soon picked up pace and gradually moved up the order to fifth by the time of the safety car.
He finished ahead of Roberto Merhi, with Antonio Fuoco seventh and Rowland picking up the final point.
His DAMS team-mate Nicholas Latifi was ninth after also starting from the back and Santino Ferrucci rounded out the top 10 for Trident.
Leclerc now has a 59-point lead over Rowland in the drivers’ standings, with Artem Markelov a further nine points behind after retiring in the sprint race.
