George Russell will start Saturday's Feature race from pole position at Spa Francorchamps after mastering the wet conditions to go quickest.
The session was run under dark skies, however with no rain falling the surface began to dry as the clock ticked down, but it was never dry enough for slicks tyres and that ultimately secured Russell the top spot as his rivals failed to improve later on, despite the Briton posting his 2:27.042 time with three minutes of the session remaining.
Russell will line up alongside ART team-mate Nirei Fukuzumi in second, two-tenths down, with Trident's Arjun Maini in third, seven-tenths back.
The third ART car of Jack Aitken narrowly missed out on making it a 1-2-3 for the team as he starts fourth ahead of Matthieu Vaxivière, Dorian Boccolacci, Ryan Tveter and Steijn Schothorst.
Julien Falchero and Tatiana Calderon completed the top ten.
