Charles Leclerc dominates wet Belgian qualifying to take seventh pole

Charles Leclerc was in a league of his own on Friday during Formula 2 qualifying at Spa Francorchamps, to claim a seventh pole position.

The session began under challenging conditions thanks to an earlier storm bringing heavy rain, meaning times were well off what was recorded earlier in the day during practice.

However as the clock ticked down, the conditions began to improve and times began to fall, with Leclerc posting a 2:20.842 to go quickest ahead of Nicholas Latifi, albeit by more than seven-tenths.

The rain soon returned, but that didn't stop Artem Markelov from going quicker as the Russian Time racer posted the best opening sector and looked to be a threat to Leclerc's pole time.

That was until a spin for Sergio Sette Camara brought out the red flags, undoing all his hard work.

The session eventually restarted with just under four minutes on the clock, but with the rain increasing there was no chance of any improvement, ensuring Leclerc retained the honours ahead of Latifi and team-mate Oliver Rowland.

Behind the top three were Gustav Malja, Antonio Fuoco, Nyck De Vries, Luca Ghiotto and Roberto Merhi. Artem Markelov and Alexander Albon completed the top ten.
