IMSA reveals 12-race calendar for 2018 season

The calendar for the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship has been released, with 12 events stated.

A few tweaks have been made to the 2017 version of the schedule, including the previously announced decision to swap the Circuit of the Americas in Texas with the road course at Mid-Ohio.

Furthermore, the Long Beach sprint event on April 13th-14th will revert to the Protoype and GT Le Mans classes only, after the ephemeral introduction of GT Daytona machinery this year.

The phasing out of the one-make Prototype Challenge formula at the end of this season also means that the Detroit race in early June will be contested by the Prototype and GTD classes only.

All other existing rounds retain their dates and form, while the four long-distance contests at Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta maintain their dual status as rounds of the IMSA WTSCC and the North American Endurance Cup.

“The 2018 WeatherTech Championship schedule again showcases the stability of our platform, while at the same time reaffirming our commitment to the best road racing venues and events in North America," said IMSA president Scott Atherton during a reveal event at Road America.

"Each race on our 2018 calendar has a rich history of sports car competition, which we expect to be at an all-time high next season across all three classes."

“The on-track product will include legendary manufacturers and competitors – some of which are returning to IMSA competition in 2018 after a short time away – and we’re confident it will capture the imagination of race fans everywhere.”

The 2018 season will once again commence with the 'Roar Before the 24' open test at Daytona on January 5-7.
