Sebastian Vettel claimed a lights to flag victory in Hungary as he led home Ferrari team-mate Kimi Räikkönen to take a 1-2 for the Scuderia, extending his championship lead to 14 points over Lewis Hamilton as Formula 1 heads into the summer shutdown.

Vettel's victory wasn't a comfortable one however as a steering issue plagued him for much of the race, allowing Räikkönen to remain close throughout the second half of the race, but due to the nature of the Hungaroring circuit, the Finn was unable to mount a challenge for the lead, despite being within a second.

Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas claimed the final podium spot. With 20 laps of the race remaining a quicker Lewis Hamilton was allowed past Bottas to fight the Ferraris, but despite getting close on a number of occasions, he couldn't find a way past and slowed on the final lap to allow the Finn to retake his position.

The race began with a Safety Car on Lap 1 after contact between the two Red Bull cars at Turn 2, which saw Daniel Ricciardo retire with a puncture and leaking radiator, forcing him to stop on the circuit after a spin. The stewards pinned the blame on Max Verstappen, handing down a ten-second penalty which ruined the Dutchman's race.

Verstappen eventually finished fifth behind Hamilton, just 13s adrift of Vettel in a race that should have delivered Red Bull a hefty points haul.

Fernando Alonso claimed McLaren's best finish of the season in sixth place, handing the team a much needed points boost, lifting them above Sauber in the stadings. Team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne claimed tenth.

Carlos Sainz was seventh for Toro Rosso, finishing ahead of the two Force Indias in eighth and ninth.

Romain Grosjean retired with a cross-threaded wheel following his first stop, whilst Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg both retired with issues.
