Renault has announced that Robert Kubica will return to the wheel of a Formula 1 car at Paul Ricard for his second test.
The 2008 Canadian Grand Prix race winner completed his first F1 test in over six years last month at the Valencia circuit, driving a Renault-liveried Lotus E20 from 2012.
Kubica managed 115 laps during the course of the test session, and then completed demo runs for Renault at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Sunday.
He has since been quoted saying his chances of competing in F1 are “80 to 90 per cent”, and Renault says this second test is to “extensively evaluate his driving capabilities”.
The test will “shortly” take place at Paul Ricard, which will host next year's French Grand Prix, with no date confirmed by Renault so far.
“Whilst the first day of testing at Valencia was no more than to let Robert get reacquainted with the feel of driving again, this second test will be to assess his capabilities to return to the highest level of competition,” explained Renault Sport Racing managing director, Cyril Abiteboul.
“This is a new phase in his personal and professional journey and we are proud to support him in the form of lending our infrastructure at Paul Ricard that is suitable for professional and non-professional drivers.
“There are still many hurdles for him to overcome, and he knows better than anyone else that only his performance will determine if he can one day return to being a professional driver.”
