Romain Grosjean hoping changes lead to brake improvements

Haas Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean is hoping various changes for this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix will combat his brake woes.

Issues with brakes have dominated Grosjean’s time at Haas so far, even briefly switching from Brembo to Carbon Industrie this year.

A new material for Brembo brakes was introduced in China but a shortage led to him going back to an older spec for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where he struggled once again.

With new-spec Brembos back on his car for Austria, alongside a variety of changes and cooling methods being trialled, he is expecting improvements.

“The good news is there is no wall facing me and it's going uphill on the braking so it's going to slow down better,” he said.

“We've revisited a lot of procedures, on the materials we've got some we like back on the car, it's good.

“We've got more cooling, we're going to keep an eye on those and hopefully just get better over the weekend."

“In Baku, we didn’t use the materials that we liked from China as we ran out, so we went back to last year’s materials, which I never was a huge fan of.

“Temperature running wise was maybe too hot, we didn’t think at the time, so we’re going to review that, and hopefully all of that together makes it perform better.”

Grosjean added that something “new” with the brakes is going to be arriving to his VF-17 at Silverstone.
