Former Ferrari junior Raffaele Marciello is to return to single-seaters after signing to race for Trident in the FIA Formula 2 championship this weekend in Austria.
Marciello, who competes full-time in Blancpain, replaces Sergio Canamasas at the Italian team, with the Spaniard moving to Rapax, in place of Johnny Cecotto Jr.
It will be Marciello’s debut in Formula 2, though he competed in GP2 for three years, placing fourth in 2016.
Marciello previously competed for Trident in 2015 and will link up with Nabil Jeffri for this weekend’s round at the Red Bull Ring.
“I’m really proud to be back working with Trident after the previous and really positive experience in the 2015 GP2 Series,” he said.
“They proved both competitive and professional throughout the years, a real benchmark in motor sports.
“I look forward to making my contribution to strengthen the team even further.
“I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of a Trident-prepared car at Red Bull Ring. It will also be my debut in the revamped FIA Formula 2 Championship.”
Elsewhere, Alexander Albon is set to return to ART, having been absent from the previous round in Baku due to injury.
