Stewards at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix have confirmed that both McLaren drivers have been given an initial 15-place grid penalty for new engine components.
Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne revealed that they would sustain engine-related grid penalties for this weekend’s event at the Baku City Circuit, with stewards now officially confirming the drop.
Both MCL32s have been fitted with a sixth Turbocharger and sixth MGU-H, the first time either car has received a sixth version of any power unit element.
Consequently, both drivers have been handed a 10- and five-place grid penalty, though further sanctions could follow across the rest of the weekend.
Alonso's car has also been fitted with a fourth MGU-K and Internal Combustion Engine, though neither of these changes have resulted in penalties.
