Daniel Ricciardo relying on Max Verstappen’s data after FP2 engine problems

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo says he will be relying on team-mate Max Verstappen's data for the Canadian Grand Prix after engine problems curtailed his running to just eight laps during second practice.

Ricciardo described his day as "uneventful" as he finished 15th quickest, more than two seconds adrift of Kimi Räikkönen's best time, but is hopeful of a better day on Saturday.

"It was kind of an uneventful day," said the Australian. "I didn’t get a whole lot of running. We had a bit going on this morning and then this afternoon with the engine.

"The positive is Max’s pace looked pretty good, he was pretty much on the tail end of that battle. Hopefully learn a bit from [his] set-up tonight and push on tomorrow."

Meanwhile Ricciardo isn't too concerned by their race pace despite neither he nor Verstappen managing any long-runs on Friday, with the Dutch driver halting with 20 minutes remaining, amid a suspected engine issue.

"Long run data I doubt," he replied when asked if they had collected enough information, "but at least short run stuff, he [Verstappen] had some good short runs. For me, we obviously didn’t get too many flying laps, uninterrupted.

"But it’s OK, I know this track well, so I’ll just get into it tomorrow morning."

Verstappen finished within half a second of pace setter Räikkönen and expressed optimism, despite his stoppage.

"I don’t know what it was exactly, so we still need to investigate, but before that it was actually quite a positive session," he added.

"I think we were quite close to the top four, on this track, which is normally not our favourite, so we can be quite pleased with that I guess."
