Robert Kubica will get his first experience behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car since 2011 this week when he tests Renault's show car, a 2012-spec Lotus.
The Polish driver saw his F1 career come to an end when he was involved in an off-season crash during a rally in Andorra after a piece of guardrail pierced his car and caused severe damage to his right-arm.
Kubica has been keen to make a return to F1 and has even driven the Mercedes simulator to see how his arm – which now has limited movement – would cope with the tight space inside an F1 cockpit.
As well as simulator work, Kubica has driven a GP3 car during a test at the Franciacorta track in Italy, a Formula E car at Donington Park and an SMP Racing LMP2 car at Monza.
The Canadian GP race winner was supposed to take part in the World Endurance Championship this year with the ByKolles LMP1 effort, but pulled out at the last minute.
This Tuesday he will get behind the wheel of an F1 car for the first time since 2011, driving the Lotus E20 around the Valencia circuit with Renault test driver Sergei Sirotkin.
