Sauber driver Marcus Ericsson remains sure that his fortunes will change, as he continues to chase his first top 10 finish in almost two years.
Ericsson has not scored a point since the 2015 Italian Grand Prix, and in that period has finished 11th on three occasions, and 12th a further four times.
Ericsson crashed out in Monaco, pinning his exit under the Safety Car on overheating brakes and cold tyres, and is sure he can emulate team-mate Pascal Wehrlein, who bagged four points at the preceding event in Spain.
“I think after the Barcelona race I was very disappointed as I felt we had a really good race but the VSC came out just when I exited the pits and I lost a lot of time and positions.
“Without that I think I would have been in the points as well.
“It happened quite a few times now that I’ve just missed out.
“In Mexico last year as well I was running P11 during the whole race and no-one retired.
“Sooner or later I must have luck on my side but I cannot blame that, I just have to keep working hard and take the opportunity when it gets there.”
Sauber endured a difficult weekend in Monaco amid difficulties in working the tyres, leaving Ericsson and Wehrlein towards the back of the pack.
Sauber still holds ninth place in the Constructors’ championship amid McLaren’s failure to score.
