ART’s Nirei Fukuzumi captured his maiden win in the GP3 Series after passing team-mate and pole sitter Jack Aitken for the lead at the start.
Fukuzumi, Aitken and Trident’s Dorian Boccolacci battled for the lead into Turn 1 and the Honda-backed youngster emerged ahead, with Aitken second, as Boccolacci drifted wide at Turn 2, dropping to fourth.
From there, Fukuzumi opened a slender gap to Aitken, with the pair pulling away from the remainder of the field.
However, Aitken slowed on lap 16 of 22 with a suspected mechanical problem, allowing Fukuzumi a clear run to the finish line and his first victory.
Leonardo Pulcini moved up to third after Boccolacci’s moment and inherited second when Aitken exited, holding off Alessio Lorandi by four-tenths of a second.
George Russell dropped back at the start but recovered to fourth, with Anthone Hubert sixth, while Boccolacci slipped to sixth at the line, a mere half second clear of Arjun Maini.
Raoul Hyman emerged on top of a ferocious battle for eighth, and reversed-grid pole, leading a train of seven cars covered by just 2.3 seconds.
