Formula E championship leader Sébastien Buemi is confident Renault e.dams can score a strong result at the Monaco ePrix, but admits it is “not going to be easy”.
The Frenchman’s advantage in the drivers’ standings was cut to just five points after Lucas di Grassi’s victory at the Mexico City ePrix.
Buemi said his team has the speed to race at the front of the field but stressed the importance of qualifying, due to the lack of overtaking opportunities in Monaco.
“I think the most important thing for us is to have a good weekend and we know we have the speed to be up the front,” he said.
“It’s not going to be an easy one for us here, it’s going to be difficult to overtake, we are going to put a lot of effort into the car to qualify well.
“The championship is still young, we still only had four races, we can’t have any conclusions. I’m confident we can have a good weekend.”
His nearest championship rival recovered from a first lap clash in Mexico to win the race, with Buemi feeling di Grassi has enjoyed more good luck:
“I don’t want to sound rude but because they [di Grassi] made mistakes it turned out to be some luck, again.
“I mean in qualifying in Hong Kong, he had a crash and because of that he had an accident in the first lap and because of the accident and because of this there was a safety car, they tend to have a very risky strategy in Mexico and in Hong Kong and it worked out very well.”
