Will Power has ended the second practice session ahead of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach fastest for Penske, after yet another action-packed session around the iconic street course.
As soon as the session got underway many drivers wasted no time in taking to the track, with numerous spills and thrills once again occurring throughout the session as the drivers continued with their preparations for the 85-lap race.
Marco Andretti came home second fastest for Andretti Autosport, splitting the Penske’s of Power and reigning champion Simon Pagenaud in third.
Despite ending practice one slightly off the pace to rivals Honda, Chevrolet managed to bounce back in the second practice session as the alternate red sticker tyres were unveiled as practically all of the drivers began focusing their attention on qualifying preparations.
Former Long Beach race winner Takuma Sato ended proceedings fourth fastest, with the Japanese racer initially sitting atop the timing sheets during the early stages of the session.
Ryan Hunter-Reay rounded out the top five ahead of veteran Helio Castroneves, with St. Petersburg race winner Sebastien Bourdais keeping close to the sharp end of the order in seventh position.
Four-time champion Scott Dixon could only manage eighth fastest for Chip Ganassi Racing, after ending the opening practice session of the weekend fastest earlier in the day.
J.R. Hildebrand and James Hinchcliffe rounded out the top ten, with the latter enduring several minor mistakes throughout the 45 minute session.
Hinchcliffe locked-up and ran straight on at both Turns 1 and 8 throughout the session, albeit safely managing to rejoin the action without requiring any assistance from the marshals.
The same could not be said for veteran Tony Kanaan, who locked-up heavily into Turn 1 during the latter stages of the session and stalled his car, causing a very brief red flag delay.
Kanaan eventually ended proceedings 13th fastest overall, behind Graham Rahal and reigning Indianapolis 500 champion Alexander Rossi.
