Indy Lights star Zach Veach has completed A.J. Foyt Racing’s Indianapolis 500 line-up, with the 22-year-old scheduled to race the team’s third car alongside Carlos Munoz and Conor Daly.
Veach joined the Road to Indy ladder series at the early age of 15 with Andretti Autosport in the U.S. F2000 National Championship, and has since successfully graduated to IndyCar’s official feeder series.
Throughout three years in Indy Lights with Andretti Autosport and Belardi Auto Racing, Veach has racked up five pole positions and six victories, ending the 2014 season third overall in the drivers’ championship, a personal high for the Ohio-born racer.
“To compete in the Indianapolis 500 is a dream I’ve had since I was four years old, so when the opportunity came about to join A.J. Foyt Racing I was ecstatic,” enthused Veach.
“A lot of great people helped me to follow my dream, so I’m thrilled to be part of this program.
“Coming to Indy with A.J. Foyt’s team is very special to me. I am counting the days to when I can take my first laps in the Chevrolet around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at speed!”
This year is A.J. Foyt’s 60th as a participant in the Indianapolis 500 and the 40th anniversary of his then record-setting fourth victory at the Brickyard.
In memory of the monumental milestone Veach will run the No. 40 on his Chevrolet-powered car, and will get his first taste of track action in the Rookie Orientation Program on May 15th.
“I think Zach has the talent and determination it takes to make it in this sport,” explained A.J. Foyt.
“I like his attitude and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
