Attempto Racing clinched the first Blancpain GT Series pole position of 2017 through a late flying lap by Marco Mapelli.
The Italian driver turned in a time of 1:32.319s behind the wheel of the #66 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 to give the Attempto squad its maiden Sprint Cup pole on home soil.
Mapelli – who shares the car with Giovanni Venturini – dipped under Laurens Vanthoor's pole time by nine tenths of a second in the final awnings of the top-17 shootout.
Joining the Attempto entry on the front row of the grid for Saturday night's qualifying race will be the HTP Motorsport Mercedes AMG-GT3.
Maximilian Buhk was the provisional pole-sitter with four minutes remaining, but his 1:32.394s marker was eclipsed by Mapelli who edged in front by a scant 0.075 second margin.
Former European Formula Three champion Raffaele Marciello qualified third on his GT racing debut with a 1:32.404s time in the AKKA ASP Mercedes AMG-GT3, ahead of the other HTP Motorsport Mercedes driven by Dominik Baumann.
Completing the top five was Rob Bell in the best-placed McLaren 650S entered by Strakka Racing.
Notable casualties from the first and second sessions included defending Sprint Cup champion Enzo Ide who qualified 18th, and both ROWE Racing BMW M6s which placed in the high 20s.
The 60-minute, two driver qualifying race for the Misano Sprint Cup round gets underway at 20:40 local time.
