The FIA has announced the nine manufacturers that have been granted powertrain homologation in Formula E from 2018 onwards.
The list of manufacturers approved by the FIA matches up with the homologation cycle for the chassis and battery.
These will remain standard in the all-electric series for three consecutive seasons, from 2018/2019 to 2020/2021.
The chassis will be supplied by Spark Technologies, while the battery will be from McLaren Applied Technologies.
Any new manufacturer wishing to homologate its powertrain will have to wait for season six and a two-year cycle, or season seven for just one year.
The biggest name to emerge from the manufacturer list is BMW, which started working with the Andretti Formula E team last year.
Here is the full list:
– ABT Formel E
– BMW AG
– DS Automobiles
– Jaguar Land Rover
– Mahindra Racing
– NextEV NIO
– Penske Autosport
– Renault
– Venturi Automobiles
“When we launched the series in 2012, we had forecast to secure at least three manufacturers by season five,” Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag said.
“The news today has highlighted the number and quality of manufacturers joining the championship and tripling our initial expectations.
“This just goes to show the relevance of Formula E to the motor industry and as an attractive proposition to new audiences and commercial partners.”
