Alexander Albon ended the second day of pre-season testing for the 2017 Formula 2 season at the top of the timesheets at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Having set the second-best time on the first day, Albon moved into the top spot at the wheel of his ART-run machine on day two of testing for the rebranded F2 series.
His quickest time came during the morning session, with his lap of 1:28.225 proving unbeatable across the course of the afternoon.
Albon finished 0.025 seconds ahead of the experienced Rapax racer Johnny Cecotto, entering his ninth year in GP2/F2, with Artem Markelov third for Russian Time.
The vast majority of drivers set their best times in the morning, including Nicholas Latifi, Norman Nato and Luca Ghiotto, who were next up on the leaderboard.
DANS racer Oliver Rowland was seventh, with Prema’s Antonio Fuoco and Charles Leclerc eighth and 10th – separated by former Manor development driver Jordan King.
Louis Delétraz and day one pacesetter Nobuharu Matsushita were next on the timesheets, ahead of King’s MP Motorsport team-mate Sérgio Sette Câmara.
McLaren youngster Nyck de Vries was one of the few racers to set their quickest time in the afternoon, when most decided to focus on race simulations, as he led the way post-lunch, but wound up only 14th overall.
Former Formula 1 driver Roberto Merhi, competing for Campos, also set his best time in the afternoon, as did Nabil Jeffri and Gustav Malja, although Malja’s morning times were deleted as his car was found to be underweight.
Two red flags interrupted the morning session due to a track inspection and Malja stopping on the circuit.
