The second day test honours went to Yamaha's Maverick Viñales as the Spaniard posted a 1:54.455 laptime to go quickest ahead of team-mate Valentino Rossi, 0.277s shy of the top spot.
Yamaha might have been quickest, but it was Ducati that stole the headlines as it debuted its new "Hammerhead" front-end. The new fairing design is a solution to the winglet ban and Andrea Dovizioso was given the first opportunity to trial it during the test.
Dovizioso went on to finish 13th quickest as he set his best time, a 1:55.583, using the traditional fairing design. Team-mate Jorge Lorenzo was eighth fastest, 0.889s down on Viñales.
Lorenzo was one of several fallers during the session. Rossi, Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda), Jack Miller (Marc VDS), Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac), Alvaro Bautista (Aspar), Bradley Smith (KTM) and the Aprilia duo of Sam Lowes and Aleix Espargaro also fell. All were unharmed.
Yamaha Tech 3's rookie Jonas Folger was third quickest, half a second down on the top spot, with Cruthlow fourth and Espargaro fifth.
The top 11 riders were covered by under a second, with 12th to 20th covered by a further second.
The third and final day of preseason testing kicks off on Sunday at the Losail International Circuit.
