Lewis Hamilton says communication between himself and Mercedes is “better than ever” after a tough 2016, adding he is in a “positive place”.
Hamilton missed out on last year’s championship to his team-mate Nico Rosberg after an intense battle and ignoring team orders put further strain on his relationship with Mercedes.
But, after a winter of reflection and conversations between Mercedes, Hamilton – who is joined by Valtteri Bottas, after Rosberg’s retirement – said communication is now the best it has ever been.
“I'm feeling in a positive place with the team – we talked about a lot of stuff over the winter, I was able to get some things off my chest and now we are communicating better than ever and continuing to grow together,” he explained.
“I'm the best equipped I have ever been to work with my team-mate and manage the relationship with my experience and maturity.
“I welcome Valtteri to the team and I know that the team will be giving us both everything they can to win the championship.”
The team’s 2017 challenger, the W08, was unveiled at the Silverstone circuit after Hamilton completed a shakedown run.
Hamilton said it was “inspiring” to see the team working harder than ever on the new car, but admitted it is too early to set goals for the season ahead.
