ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport Formula E driver Lucas di Grassi secured pole position for the Buenos Aires ePrix after an eventful qualifying session.

The Brazilian driver made it through to Super Pole and put in a 1:09.404 to score his maiden pole position in the all-electric series, picking up three championship points in the process.

Techeetah’s Jean-Éric Vergne missed out on pole by two tenths of a second, with Sébastien Buemi making an error early in his lap and having to settle for third.

Both NextEV NIO cars made it through to Super Pole but scruffy laps left Oliver Turvey and Nelson Piquet Jr. fourth and fifth on the grid.

Nicolas Prost was the first driver to miss out on Super Pole in the second Renault e.Dams entry, qualifying sixth, while Jaguar’s Mitch Evans was seventh, having topped the opening segment.

Felix Rosenqvist was next up for Mahindra, with Jérôme d'Ambrosio and Sam Bird – who set the pace in FP2, but struggled to heat his tyres up in qualifying – completing the top 10.

Stéphane Sarrazin was 11th quickest, with Nick Heidfeld, Robin Frijns, Loïc Duval and the second Jaguar car of Adam Carroll rounding out the top 15.

Daniel Abt hit the wall at Turn 4 in the fourth segment of qualifying and was 16th, with Andretti driver António Félix da Costa’s hot lap being interrupted by a red flag.

He received the chance to conduct a full-power lap but clipped the wall at the Turn 8 chicane and had to settle for 17th. FP1 pace-setter and home hero José María López was next up, having caused the red flag after crashing at Turn 7.

Techeetah’s Ma Qing Hua hit the Turn 4 barrier and was 19th, with power issues leaving Venturi’s Maro Engel 20th.
